Limpsfield C.E. Infant School

Art and Design

Intent

At Limpsfield C.E. Infant School, our intention is that all children are exposed to the beauty of art and design. We want all of our children to use their imagination and creativity skills to become confident and expressive artists in their own right. We see art and design as an integral part of a child’s development and well-being and as a vehicle for self-expression and creativity.

Implementation

At Limpsfield C.E. Infant School all children have the opportunity to explore ideas and to engage with different tools, techniques and materials as well as to learn about the work of famous artists. Children are given opportunities to explore and experiment through a variety of themed weeks and structured weekly art and design lessons. Our art and design curriculum is comprised of six units; drawing, painting, printing, collage & textiles, sculpture and digital media. These units are revisited each year so the children are given the opportunity to consolidate their skills taught in the previous year and to embed their knowledge and understanding.  We teach children to observe and evaluate their own work and the work of others. We take pride in celebrating the children’s work both around school as well as in the classrooms.

Impact

At Limpsfield C.E. Infant School children are confident to express themselves through art and design. They can talk about and make links between different mediums and artists. Children reflect on their own work and are able to make changes and adaptations accordingly.
