New Parents
This page provides new parents to our school with important information and copies of our policies required to complete your parental permissions form which will be sent to you once your child has accepted a place at our school.
Attendance
Attendance at all school sessions is required by law, and a key factor in raising educational standards. Regular and punctual attendance at school underpins successful learning and sets good habits for the future world of employment.
Legal Responsibilities- Parents have a legal duty to ensure that their child attends regularly and punctually.
- The Local Authority has a legal duty to ensure that parents carry out this responsibility. The school has a legal duty to record absence of registered pupils in compliance with the regulations.
Absence from school
We are always interested in your child's welfare and it is important in the case of absences, that the school should be notified on the first day of absence by 9.30am. If e-mailing (info@limpsfield.surrey.sch.uk) or leaving a message on the answerphone (01883 723183), please provide your child's full name, class and full details of the reason for absence.
Children who are off school due to vomiting or diarrhoea must not return to school until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea.
Please take a look at the below guidance provided by the UK Health Security Agency and NHS for when you should keep your child off school due to sickness.

Lateness
Please also notify us if your child will be coming to school late and requires a lunch. Numbers for lunch are required daily before 9.30 a.m.
For planned absences please notify the school in writing, e.g. dental, medical appointment or any visit to another school. If the parent wishes to remove a child during the day, the child should be collected and returned to the school office and the signing in and out book must be completed as appropriate.
Holidays during term time
No holidays will be authorised during term time.
The school holiday dates are published a year in advance on our Term Dates page and parents/carers should take their family holidays during these times. Term dates for Surrey schools are also available from the Surrey County Council website www.surreycc.gov.uk .
If there is a situation where a child will be absent during term time, you must submit an absence request form available from the office or for you to print below explaining the reason for absence to the school office. The Executive Headteacher will look at each individual request and you will be notified of the result of the request.
Photo Consent - Using and Taking Photographic Images
We have to have your permission to use photos of your child, so please tick the photo permissions box on your form and contact the school office at info@limpsfield.surrey.sch.uk should you have any queries.
Digital technologies are an integral part of our curriculum at Limpsfield CE Infant School. We use photographs and video footage of learning activities to help the children evaluate the quality of their learning – as well as for sharing and celebrating their achievements. These are captured as they happen with all the children interacting together.
The children really enjoy seeing these images and feedback from parents who have seen slide shows in assemblies, photographs around school, on Class Dojo and on our website has been very positive. Being able to select from these images so that we can share with the wider community the quality of education that we offer here at Limpsfield is very important to us.
Medicine and Emergency Medication
Medication
We can support your child at school with any medications they take whether these be short or long term medications. All medicines must be stored in the School Office and signed in by parents/carers. Children cannot store any medication in their bags during the school day, and medication cannot be sent home with a child and must be collected from the school office.
The school office team manage medication during the school day. All medication must be in the original box with the prescription note attached. Non-prescription medications, except for antihistamine for hayfever and food allergies are not to be brought into school.
Parents are required to sign all medication into school and are responsible for checking expiry dates and replacing medication when out of date. The school will alert parents when medication is nearing its expiry date.
Some children require a medical plan and this is produced by the school office and distributed to staff working with the child. In some cases, an emergency care plan is in place to ensure best practice.
Allergies and Asthma
If your child has an inhaler and/or Epi Pen/Jext Pen, please ensure the school is provided with an inhaler and spacer and/or 2 x Epi Pens/Jext Pens to be kept on the school premises at all times. These must be signed in via the school office in their original container as dispensed by a Pharmacist, with the label on. Please also bring in their Asthma Treatment / Allergy Treatment Plan so that we can keep a copy at school. If your child requires use of their inhaler or Epi/Jext Pen at school you will be contacted and a signed slip advising of the dose given will be sent home with your child.
If your child has a mild allergy or hayfever please provide us with their antihistamine medication that can be kept on the school premises. If you child requires antihistamine you will be contacted beforehand.
Please see our Administering Medication Policy for further information.
Emergency Medication
In the event your child requires emergency medication whilst at school, the parent or carer will be contacted in the first instance.
At Limpsfield we hold the following emergency medications onsite.
Paracetamol
Paracetamol/Calpol is the only medicine that the school keeps for general use for emergencies. With your permission, an authorised member of staff could administer it. Parents/carers are always informed by phone and the dose and time are recorded on a form, which is sent home with the child. This may be used in circumstances where your child has a high temperature, sudden tooth ache or pain caused by an injury/accident at school.
Emergency Inhaler
From 1st October 2014 The Human Medicines (amendment) (no.2) Regulations 2014 allows schools to keep a salbutamol inhaler for use in emergencies.
This inhaler will only be used by children, who have either been diagnosed with asthma and prescribed an inhaler, or who have been prescribed an inhaler as reliever medication.
This inhaler will only be used if the pupil’s prescribed inhaler is not available (for example, because it is empty, missing or broken).
The office staff will supervise the use of this inhaler and the information will be recorded on the medical record for that pupil and a slip will be sent home with the child. The parents will also be informed that the child needs to have another inhaler of their own in school.
- Parent/Carer confirms that their child has been diagnosed with asthma/has been prescribed an inhaler
- Parent/Carer confirm that their child has a working, in-date inhaler, clearly labelled with their name, which is kept at school.
- In the event of child displaying symptoms of asthma, and their inhaler is not available or is unusable, that Parent/Carer consents to their child to receive salbutamol from an emergency inhaler held by the school for such emergencies.
Epi Pen
The school holds emergency Epi Pens in both Junior and Adult strengths for emergency only. This will be administered in the event of a anaphylaxis reaction, and the parent/carer will be contacted when this has been administered. In all cases of anaphylaxis an ambulance will be called if an Epi Pen is administered.
Emergency Medical Treatment
In the event of an accident or sudden illness whilst your child is taking part in a school activity we will do our utmost to contact you immediately. However, if we are unable to do so we may be asked by medical authorities to grant permission for emergency medical treatment to be given. We need your authority to act on your behalf.
First Aid
The school uses an accident reporting book to record first aid incidents and all staff are responsible for recording incidents in which a child is hurt. This includes all head injuries, any blood, any mark or bruising and any situation where there may be injury to an bone. We understand that children do have accidents and encourage resilience when the injury is minor.
Parents will be contacted whenever there is a head injury by phone and the child's teacher will be alerted to ensure that they are monitored during the remainder of the school day. In some cases, the school office will contact parents directly to make a decision whether they need to come into school to support their child.
The school has duty of care and, if necessary, will call an ambulance in the first instance if an injury requires this. Parents will then be contacted immediately after this.
Intimate Care
There may be times where a child needs support with care tasks of an intimate nature associated with bodily functions. The below policy outlines our safeguarding, guidance and support we offer our pupils.
ClassDojo
ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers and families can use to share what’s being learned in the classroom or home. This can be through photos, videos, and messages. Class Dojo is a closed group – only accessed via parental login and images cannot be downloaded.
We do understand that a small minority of parents retain concerns about pictures of their children being used on websites. Our policy is to broadly follow the Department for Education (DFE) advice:
“If the pupil is named, avoid using the photograph. If the photograph is used, avoid naming the pupil.” So we will not use children’s full names alongside their photographs in the school’s own printed publications, in video films or on our website. However, pupils’ first names may be used, and their full names may be given in group situations where they cannot be linked to individuals in the photograph. We believe that this, along with the training we give them in the safe use of the internet and social media, protects children from being identified and contacted via our website.
You would be contacted to give specific permission if we would like to use photographs in the media, for example local newspapers or on social media/Twitter.
We understand there may be exceptional circumstances where pupils cannot be photographed. If this is the case please ring the school office and speak to a member of staff.
